After getting married, Natsume chose to remain at the lectern, but the demands of teaching made it difficult to balance work and home, and her marriage had already gone cold. Then she visited the home of a student who had stopped attending school and encountered the anguish of the boy's father. Bound by the same loneliness, the two were drawn to each other. Though they knew it was wrong, they kept meeting in secret and sank into an affair with no way back.
