A few months after my wife Yuu and I moved into the neighborhood, she showed me a circular announcing a two-night, three-day community camping trip. I told her there was no way I could attend on weekdays, but she insisted on going because she wanted to get along with the women’s association. Reluctantly, I let her travel alone. I reassured myself that a full group would keep her safe and saw her off—only to learn that night that the only other campers were three middle-aged men.
