Six months after moving to the area, my wife Rena and I go camping with neighborhood-association chairman Sugiura, vice chairman Otsuka, and treasurer Kashiwagi. We were told everyone would be coming, yet somehow only the five of us show up. The three men leer hungrily at Rena’s body as they talk, but she notices nothing and keeps laughing with them. Irritated beyond reason, I end up arguing with her. The vice chairman suggests that I have a drink to calm down, then keeps pouring until I am barely conscious.
