Since losing her husband, Yuka has raised her son Yugo alone. Her hard work appears ready to pay off when the healthy young man grows into an adult student with a chance at a top university. The summer before his graduation, Yuka and her son meet homeroom teacher Oshima to discuss his future. The three-way conference begins well, but after Yugo leaves and Yuka remains alone in the classroom, Oshima tells her there is a problem with her son's admission prospects.
