I'd say it myself: I've lived a straight life. Full-time job, and now senior enough to have juniors under me. Married two years ago, and it's a good marriage — we've started talking about kids. I've made a point of not hurting people and not betraying anyone. Today I ended up sharing a room with a subordinate out of nowhere, but I told my wife, and it was going to end uneventfully. Except maybe, somewhere underneath, I've been carrying resentment about always playing the “decent man.” That's what went through my head watching Kawakita look up at me with those wide, guileless eyes. Maybe my turn to reach for something I shouldn't has finally come.
