At night, while uploading videos, the editor reads a celebrated book about women, desire, and consumption. Her job is to cut and publish obscene footage while an older boss insists that emotion is irrelevant and only numbers matter. She once hated his cold habit of treating people as tools, yet gradually came to depend on his approval and view the women on screen only as material and products. The book's women eat, desire, choose, and own their lives, while she arranges other people's appetites and survives on judgment. Beautiful face, attractive body, suitable sex friend or wife—every woman is reduced to a category, abused by men, and converted into metrics beneath her clicking finger. She had begun wishing she could become as cold and unfeeling as her boss, but now that wish frightens her. The small consolation is that some part of her can still recognize that something is wrong.
